Reactor Engineering Consulting

Reactor Engineering Associates (REA) provides BWR reactor engineering consulting and training to the nuclear power industry.  REA engineers have extensive experience on every generation of operating BWR and have been Qualified Reactor Engineers on BWR/2/4/5/6.  In addition, REA has assisted in rebuilding several Reactor Engineering groups either by assisting a new Reactor Engineering Supervisor or by assuming the Reactor Engineering Supervisor/Manager position to rebuild and restructure the Reactor Engineering group and train/mentor a new Reactor Engineering Supervisor/Manager.  In these positions, REA revised and updated Reactor Engineering procedures and practices to modern standards, upgraded reactor engineering tools, and re-trained Reactor Engineers in modern methods.  REA has also provided Principal Reactor Engineers to provide support during short term staffing shortages or to augment the reactor engineering staff to support long term projects, such as fuel vendor transition, installation of a new core monitor, or implementation of new analyses (MELLA, etc.).  In addition, REA engineers have extensive CRD and NI systems experience and experience in fuel reliability.  In the area of fuel reliability, REA engineers have developed comprehensive fuel reliability programs, recognized as an INPO strength and credited for resolving long standing (over 20 years) fuel reliability issues.

Reactor Engineer Initial Training

By focusing on those high value topics necessary for reactor engineering qualifications, REA has been able to develop an optimized class schedule of only 3 weeks while maintaining the highest standards for training quality.  This optimized class duration not only reduces travel and living expenses but also minimizes the student’s “out of office” time.  By coupling this cost savings with the lowest cost per student rate in the industry, REA is able to provide an unbeatable value in initial reactor engineering training.  In addition, further discounts are available for multiple students attending from the same utility.

Reactor Engineer Refresher Training

The REA Reactor Engineer Refresher class is developed specifically for the plant(s) participating in the refresher training and includes subject matter selected from the REA REIT class, which may be revised to include plant specific systems, analysis, practices or any plant specific topic specified.

Reactor Engineer Continuing Training

The REA Reactor Engineer Continuing training class is delivered on site by an REA Reactor Engineer on quarterly or semi-annual bases.  It is designed to maintain the skills and knowledge qualified reactor engineers current.  This training consists of relevant operating experience, reactor physics, core monitoring updates, and other topics requested by participating utilities.
